Birthday Adventures…

Yes, I had a birthday. Almost a month ago! Time was getting away from me and I was trying to get back to posting…it was January 11. I had a wonderful Monday that week…turning 29 and all. Then I traveled to Memphis the following weekend to see some friends, spend time with my Mom, and check out a yarn store I’ve been dying to see!!

First up, let me just say that my weekend was fabulous! I miss my friends in Memphis so much and I miss my mom even more! It was so great to spend time with them…I am a little disappointed to say that I don’t think we snapped one picture of the group!

Enough of that…I know you’re really here for the yarn store part 🙂 About a year before I moved to Louisville (maybe 2012-ish) I learned there was a yarn store down in Oxford, Mississippi…steps from the Ole Miss campus. I put it on my radar and thought, I should try to get down there before I move…fast-forward to 2016 and the thousands (ok, maybe only like 20 or so) of trips I’ve made back to Memphis and I still hadn’t made the time to check out the shop.

So on Saturday, January 16, after a lovely, leisurely morning with lots of coffee and lots of catching up, I loaded up my Mom in the car and we zipped down the Oxford. It didn’t take us long before we were cruising around the town, amazed by how big the Ole Miss campus is (I went to a college with roughly 2000 other students…) and we were met by the little shop, tucked up in front of a strip mall, next to a Pizza Hut. I neglected to take a picture of the shop, but when I tell you it was an unexpected gem…just imagine it 🙂

Or you can visit them here, on the web. I was delighted, enchanted, inspired when I walked in…filled with beautiful yarns, carefully curated for the knitter in a warmer climate…not to mention being a flagship store for Quince & Co…my first time seeing them in real life…and I couldn’t decide what to make! So I walked out of the yarn shop…without YARN!!! I was/am trying to stay faithful to the Chevron Baby Blanket

and the Hammerhavn Sock Test Knit

I know. But I did buy myself a little birthday gift.

It’s a Curly Girl Mug. I love the saying about the cowboy boots…I’m going to have to pull mine out more often. I used to wear mine all the time, then I just stopped.

It was a fun weekend and I’m super happy I was able to visit a shop I’d never been too…

They even offer free shipping! When I’m ready for my Quince & Co project, I know who I’ll be calling! I’ve been staying monogamous with the blanket and the socks…

I guess working on two projects at once isn’t monogamous…but it feels that way since I’m not putting any rows on the other 5 WIPs I’ve got on the needles for me…

That baby is coming! A month away! And the Test knit deadline is right around then too! I’d better get back to it!

Welcome to a link-up party for your Friday Finished Object posts! In an effort to connect everyone who creates and blogs about it here on the web, I thought providing a place to link up and share your freshly finished creations would be a great way to see what everyone is working on. Please feel free to share ANY of your finished crafty pursuits from knitting and crocheting to sewing and scrapbooking.

So I finished not one, but two Barleys!!! And I couldn’t be more pleased.

IMG_1873 Here they are, drying on my kindergarten mats…so perfect for drying your knits.

IMG_1875I love the transition from stockinette to garter stitch. And I’m super pleased with the dense squishy feeling of the fabric…a nice happy medium between body armor and being too loose.

I see you made it for the Finished Friday…I know I’ve missed a few weeks and I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it again. I did note that friends were still visiting each week, waiting for a Friday post…something I’m supposed to be doing, something people are looking forward to…

I guess I’ve been just giving it a “halfway” try. Not everything, but not nothing (oooh double negative). I guess this week’s “finish” is perfectly appropriate then…

It’s a half finished pair of socks!

IMG_1869

This is 1 of my Bootstrap socks. The heel was interesting….it’s a Balbriggan heel from Lara Neel’s Sock Architecture. I’m curious as to how it will wear. I’m not worried about the yarn wearing well…the Mountain Colors Crazyfoot has some serious twist!

I guess on the half finished note is also this tasty half finished beer I’m enjoying as I write this 🙂 (no worries, it is Thursday evening).

MMMMmmmm perfect fall beer, Schlafly Pumpkin Ale.

No finishes on any of those lovelies from earlier this week…but I’ve been trying to put a row or two on each…I was just working on the fish hat and thought I’d share.

Even Sis is interested in the knits 🙂

You may be wondering where I’ve been this week. It has been crazy busy. I hope you’ve been able to create more than I have and have some beautiful finishes to show 🙂

Nothing newly finished, but I have been knitting! I’m hoping for a little sweater or shawl post this weekend to ramble a bit 🙂

It’s finished! Catkin!

IMG_1839

Except for the buttons…and the blocking…but the ends are all woven in and the light is bad…I’m so excited to wear it. I must, must get it blocked and must put buttons on it so I CAN WEAR IT! IT FEELS LIKE FALL…sort of.

It was up to 82 Fahrenheit today. But my office is freezing 🙂 Always somewhere to wear the woolens 🙂

Yep, Catkin is still on the needles…I swear I’ve worked on it, some…Just busy.

I forgot last week. I’m trying to get a handle on my schedule, with volleyball and work. And trying to put out my new site…I’m hesitant to take the plunge & pay the $100 to buy my own domain and be hosted and independent. Bah!

So I’ve wrapped up a project 🙂

IMG_1820 IMG_1821

This is the 22 Little Clouds pattern by Martina Behm. I knit mine using Malabrigo Worsted in the Azul Bolita colorway. It’s the most rich blue. So beautiful. And it was wonderful to knit on US 9s…it went so fast! The pattern was very easy to follow and very hard to put down…the rows definitely got long, but I just wanted to finish!
